Starting the New Year off in Style

Hello New Hanoians one and all! We hope you've all properly recovered from the string of holidays (and all the holiday parties) and are in the process of saving up strength for the local version of holiday madness that is just around the corner. We're only a couple weeks away from the pre-Tet Hanoi streets becoming absolute bedlam, so get any of those errands that you've been putting off run before it hits. We've been laying low and letting our internal organs recuperate before the food and rượu binging that is sure to take place when it comes time to visit the in-laws for New Year. That doesn't mean you need to stay in, however, and a few of you will be hitting the town compliments of your outstanding work here on the site. Our first winner of a New Hanoian user contribution award certainly made a grand entry into our community. Displaying the sort of savvy that comes from years of experience in Hanoi, 4inhanoi is clearly someone whose experience we can all benefit from. Her assortment of first rate reviews have earned her and her family, friends or colleagues a trip to one of Hanoi's newest dining destinations. She and seven lucky people will be heading to Season BBQ for a night of teppenyaki. Only recently opened, Season BBQ has the sort of classy ambiance, central location, and memorable cuisine that seems sure to make it an institution in the local culinary scene. While they're still quietly establishing themselves as a prime destination for special occasions and business dinners, this is your chance to check it out before getting a table on a weekend night is no sure thing. For 4inhanoi, a front row seat to its unveiling awaits. Our next winner is a great example of how you can be an exemplary contributor without only writing reviews. While Tamvong has only written a couple reviews, their presence on Ask A New Hanoian has been virtually unparalleled. Scarcely a question goes by without the Tamvong treatment, showing an understanding of Hanoi and a willingness to help out a fellow community member that we all greatly appreciate. In recognition of this consistent attention to the needs of others, we'll be sending Tamvong to Life Photo Gallery on Tràng Tiền street. There will be a whole selection of original photographic work awaiting. Upon selecting one, it will be matted, framed, and given to Tamvong in thanks for all the wonderful work. With all of the rush to find unique holiday gifts to send home from this distant land, we only hope there are still enough of Life Photo Gallery's classic shots in stock to treat our truly deserving community member. Finally, we have the best review of the month of December as chosen by the New Hanoian community. With an assortment of "Well-Written", "Funny", "Accurate", and "Useful" props handed out by his fellow New Hanoians, Symmo_24's review of the Tay Ho Waterpark was virtually unchallenged for top honors. It's writing like this that makes us all happy to be a part of the New Hanoian community. To reward his great work, he and seven friends will be getting a big night compliments of Hair of the Dog. The newcomer on what is quickly becoming a block full of bars, Hair of the Dog will be giving them free draft beer and food all night. All eight of them. With a cozy downstairs for chatting with the regulars and an upstairs with wall length sofas, a pool table, and impromptu dancing at a moment's notice, they should be in for a big night. Having not only written the top review of December, but also being one of our most prolific reviewers of the month, Symmo_24 has it coming. Let's all hear it for our December prize winners! With a little luck, you might be able to congratulate them in person. On January 19th, we'll be having our monthly meet up of New Hanoian members. Hopefully all three of our distinguished winners will be able to attend and we can tip a glass in their honor. After a wonderfully sociable evening last month at Tipsy Ultra Lounge, we'll be seeking out some serious brew for this affair. The Czech brewhouse Goldmalt on Trần Phú street will be our enthusiastic hosts. For those of you who have not yet been to Goldmalt, this will be your chance to get a first hand look at how much more the Hanoi beer scene is than just bia hơi. We all love our bia hơi from time to time, but it hardly belongs in the same conversation as the sort of elixir you'll be getting mug after mug of free from Goldmalt...simply for being a New Hanoian member. Mark it on your calendars, tell your friends, and make your way to Trần Phú street for another great evening with your community. We'll be seeing you there, The Staff of The New Hanoian
