Happy holidays one and all. Christmas is fast approaching, and we've got a variety of treats to set the season off. If you're sticking around town through the holidays, we suggest you stick with us and you can't go wrong. We've got food, drink, gift ideas, and the good sense to put them all in your hands. To kick things off, the December Meet-Up of New Hanoian site members is all set for this coming Saturday (the 22nd). We'll be crashing Tipsy Ultra Lounge to the tune of three hours of free beer, food, and other assorted goodies being put together by Binh (owner and manager). If Hanoi is your home for Christmas, there will be no better way to start off your Saturday night. Beginning at 7:30, all you have to do is head to Tipsy (103A Hang Bong) and get your evening started. From then until 10:30 any registered member of www.newhanoian.com will be getting all the beer they can drink. Your friends not registered on the site yet? No problem. Bring them along anyway. We'll have computers set up for on-the-spot registrations. Any and all are welcome to what is always a lively evening. The benefits of membership don't stop there. Got a little time on your hands over the holidays? Want to hit the newest restaurant destination in Hanoi? If you've been cranking out the reviews, answering questions, and entering new spots onto the site, you might just be in line for an all expenses paid dinner for eight at Season BBQ. Season BBQ has quietly opened its operations on Lý Thưởng Kiệt street across from the Quán Sú Pagoda, but it won't be a secret for long. With six floors of Teppenyaki grills, on table BBQ, and starlit patio seating, the crowds are going to be descending on it in no time at all. If you're one of our top contributors for the month of December, you and seven of your luckiest friends might be making an evening of their full on Japanese-Korean-Western culinary experience. Just remember, when seats are tough to come by, we gave you plenty of notice. Eight seems to be the number. Yet another Hanoi business is challenging the New Hanoian community with an offer that goes well beyond generous. Hair of the Dog will be rewarding one of our top contributors and seven friends with unlimited draft beer and a wide range of food through out their complimentary evening. While the newcomer to the emerging bar area that has begun to radiate out from Bia Hơi Corner, Hair of the Dog has been far from quiet about their appearance. Bumping music, late hours, tons of drink specials, and even a standing offer to arm wrestle the manager for a free drink. Really? An arm wrestling contest? Head down to Hàng Giầy and see for yourself. If you put together a nice run of reviews here on the New Hanoian this month, it might be eight of you on your way to find out what this madness is all about. Finally, we've got a last-minute-Christmas-shopping saviour that some deserving New Hanoian will be enjoying the work of gratis in the new year. Life Photo Gallery, tucked away in a small shop on Tràng Tiền street, has long been offering compelling images of Vietnam by local Vietnamese photographers. The nice things recently said about them here on the site brought us to their attention, and they are ready to give back to the New Hanoian community. One of our prize winning contributors will be heading down to Life Photo Gallery to choose among the many available original photos to have mounted and framed for no charge. They will be taking a unique bit of Hanoi away with them, just as many have been doing in this holiday season. Many of their fine pieces do far more than any trinket or souvenir could ever do to express the feel of living and being in Hanoi. No one could appreciate that more than a New Hanoian.
